K: Good evening (that’s god kväll to you, Swedes)! I’m Kylie, the Australian. I’m sitting here chatting with Johan on Skype (part of our daily ritual), trying to write this post for you to get to know us. It’s hard to come up with something to say, kind of like the awkwardness in meeting someone new, except we don’t know who we’re meeting yet.
J: We (Kylie and Johan) are 23 and 24 years old respectively (Actually, she’s still 22, but only just). We live in North Brisbane, Australia and Östergötland, Sweden. She likes winter and snow, I like summer and sun (though I’m not really the type who goes to the beach for a swim much).
K: Just as well. There’s sharks. And jellyfish.
J: Not in Sweden there isn’t… Anyway, that is one of the few things we don’t agree on. I know that they say that opposites attract, but for us, we have way more similarities than differences. We are both highly creative and artistically minded. She loves to write and craft, and I make music and computer graphics. Well, at least that’s just a few of the things we do.
K: We are both avid readers – him more than me – I never seem to find the time. We are lovers and fanatics of Harry Potter, which brought us together, but also other popular series – The Hunger Games, Percy Jackson, John Green books… not to mention we’re a part of the usual popular TV fandoms – Doctor Who, Supernatural… I’m still yet to watch Once Upon A Time – no spoilers!
J: We are actually quite spread out across fandoms. I watch many shows she doesn’t yet, and she watches a lot I don’t, but I guess that will be mixed in the future, when we start watching each other’s shows more. Because that’s what you do when you love someone. You take interest in what they take interest in.
We get along remarkably well though, for a couple who have so many similarities. We do sometimes have a hard time agreeing on things (the name of this blog, for instance) and some stuff like that, but it’s okay. We never have a dull moment during our discussions, and we rarely have any real arguments, only wild discussions where we both are determined to get our way.
K: What were we arguing about the other day?
J: I don’t know.
K: Yep, our arguments tend to be the pointless, funny kind we can’t remember the next week. Like who loves who more. And when one should go to bed – which should be me now, sorry! Goodnight. I’ll leave you in Johan’s trusty hands.
J: Thanks, I’ll do my best. But there isn’t much more to say really. There will be plenty of time to get to know us, and we have only just gotten started.
That’s how you start the first blog post, right?
Okay, introductions first.
I’m Johan. I’m one half of this blog. You can see me pictured above together with the other half of this blog, who is is currently asleep. She’s sleeping and I’m working on the blog. That’s what you get when there’s half a world between you. And that’s what this blog will be about. Me and her.
Her name is Kylie, by the way. And she’s great. (I accept the fact that I may be biased).
We have been dating since November 2012, and have met once since then, a month over Christmas and New Years 2013. If we do the math, that means that, as of this post, we’ve spent about 1 in 31 months together in person. That’s roughly 3% of our relationship, and still I think we’re lucky to have been able to get that much so far, considering the cost of travelling from Australia to Sweden. 9485 miles across the world.
I think that’ll be enough for the first post. There’ll be more coming soon. Some proper introductions and things like that. We are still working out exactly what kind of content we will post here, but I hope that it will both be entertaining and educational, whether you are in a long distance relationship yourself, know someone who is, or just want to know more about how it works.
You’re welcome to join us on this journey, because it’s far from over yet.
